I created this calligramme in the shape of a sailboat to represent the journey I have had up until this point in my life and the journey that I will have in the next twenty years of my life. I wrote a letter to my future self in which I explained all of the hopes and dreams I wish to accomplish by the time I am 41. When I finished writing, I decided that my letter would best be displayed in the form of a sailboat. To me, a sailboat represents journey and adventure. All of the ups and downs we experience everyday are all part of our journey and what helps mold us into the people we are. 

I used Adobe Illustrator to create this calligramme. I started by sketching out the sailboat on paper and then recreated the drawing on Illustrator using the pen tool. I then used the type tools to insert pieces of my letter to create the shape of the sailboat using just my words. I played around with different fonts, colors, and sizes until my vision came to life, capturing the adventures that are to come in the next chapter of my life.


Letter:


Dear Future Me, 

At the time of this letter you are 21 years old and in your final semester at the University of Tampa, majoring in Communication and minoring in Sociology and Advertising. The past four years in college have gone by so fast, but they have been nothing short of amazing. You have met the greatest people ever, have had some pretty unforgettable experiences, and above all else you have grown immensely as an individual. You learned how to balance school, work and a social life. It wasn’t easy, but with time you were able to find a system that worked for you. You came out of your shell and became an outgoing and confident person that high school you probably wouldn’t even recognize. I am so proud of you and the person you have become. Currently, you have an internship with Confetti Events where you help plan and execute weddings and corporate events and you absolutely love it. You’ve gotten the hang of the internship and could definitely excel in a hospitality-related field. I wonder if you are still in the event planning industry or if you changed career paths. You recently met with a career advisor at school who is helping you with your job search and career exploration. At this point in time, you really don’t have a clear picture of what you see yourself doing, but you are putting in the work to figure it out. Now, you are 41 years old. 20 years have gone by and I can’t even begin to imagine how much has changed in your life. I hope you are successful in whatever career you decide to pursue. I hope you’ve held onto the friends that have helped shape the person you are. I hope you live a life full of adventure and excitement. I hope you see the world and experience different cultures and learn from other people. I hope you find love and continue to romanticize your life. Most of all, I hope you continue to do the things that make you happy. I am so excited to see how far you come in the next 20 years.

 Video 1: From this video, it seems like it is pretty simple to create new frames and groups in Photoshop. Frames are used to show movement in the animation. You adjust the images slightly between frames so when you watch the animation, it appears as though it is a fluid movement. I found this video interesting because the example he used of the person walking was easy to follow along with and didn’t overcomplicate the process for beginners.  Video 2: I really liked how quick and straight to the point this tutorial is. The narrator was able to cover how to use a wide variety of tools in such a short amount of time. I found it interesting how he duplicated the groups in the layers panel in order to create movement in the animation. Video 3: This tutorial covered how to create new frames and groups. He used the brush tool to create his animation. He sketched a name in multiple frames, making them all slightly different so when you watch the animation it looks like it’s moving. H...

BW to Color

 Original Photo: Split Complementary: Analogous: Triad: I created these three versions of my original photo using Adobe Photoshop. I first placed my photo into photoshop and converted it into greyscale. From there, I went to colors.adobe.com to choose three different color palettes. The three that I choose were split complementary, analogous, and triad. I used the different color palettes to add pops of color into my black and white photo. To do this I used the quick selection tool to outline specific areas of the image, then created a new layer with a mask. After that, I pulled the color I wanted from the color palette and filled the desired area with that color. I am happy with the way these turned out and feel like this activity helped strengthen my skills using different layers in photoshop and creating masks.

Portfolio

  Template: From AdobeStock b y  TypoEdition  I created this portfolio using Adobe InDesign. This portfolio is a culmination of all of my assignments this semester in FMX 210. I included my work from Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign.   I chose a color palette of shades of pinks and purples to make it look fun. I used Helvetica font for my body paragraphs and Diot font for my headers. I feel as though this project is a great representation of my work throughout this course and shows the progression of my skills.
