Internet and World Wide Web To put it briefly, the internet is a global network of interconnected computer networks that allows for information, communication, and resources to be exchanged worldwide. The internet was invented by a group of scientists and engineers in the 1960s in the United States. During this time, the Cold War was going on and there was tension between North America and the Soviet Union. This led to the creation of the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network, or ARPANET which is known today as the internet. Even though the process of inventing the internet began around the 1960s, the official creation date of the internet is January 1, 1983 and it was originally used by military scientists and university staff.
